April 2, 2005 Update
Welcome back to another week of updates! It seems like before we know it, Saturday is here, and we have to try to put all the information that we gained throughout the week online for you to view. This has been a very exciting week for us here at Project THX138. Starting off with my very good friend, Brad Dougan, who has now become an official dealer for Haneline dashes. So what does this mean? This means that you can get your American Graffiti Coupe dash with no wait! And when I say American Graffiti Coupe dash, I mean this thing is balls on! It even comes with the correct rubber gasket that goes around the panel. Brad has informed me that the panels will be $185, the exact same price as if you ordered it through Haneline themselves. But here lies the difference, if you order through Haneline, you will have a 2-4 week wait. If you order through Brad at Custom Automotive, there is no wait, as Brad has them in stock. Now, here's an added bonus. If you are / or become a part of our Coupe Club, Brad has informed me that all members will receive the dash panels for $160. So even more incentive to join the club. In the past, we have not been accepting any new members, but since we are coming close to the official start date, we are accepting members now. Those of you who have sent in your money, you are locked in. Memberships are $35 until June 1, 2005. After that, memberships go to $50 (just based on all the savings, info, and paraphernalia that you will receive. Once you become a member, your annual fee for renewal will be $35. We just today finished scanning over 150 photos of the original American Graffiti Coupe, actually taken for a member to our site by Rick Figari himself (when he first got the Coupe). These will be available to members only for viewing. To become a member today, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve your member number, and mail your membership dues to us at:
Overland Park, Kansas 66204
Please note that Custom Automotive will verify your membership status with us before giving you the special price of $160 for your dash panel order, so the sooner you sign up, the sooner you can get your dash panel ordered and in your car.
Now, I have mentioned before that you will receive special information in the Members site. And you might be wondering, what is this special information? Well, let me tell you, boys, as I have said many, many times, this little hot rod has many, many secrets. And you will find out what these secrets are in the members area. For instance, the correct front shocks - that's right, we know what they are, and they match 100%. Also, you will learn things like how to properly install your rear cross member, and many, many other tidbits that will help make your car "Graffiti Correct". So, it is well worth the dime, and even if you didn't want the info, it's just well worth all the cool shit you will get.
We have another update. We have now the link for you to order your own Graffiti Graveyard print, signed and numbered the artist, with a limited run of ONLY 200. After the 200 is over, it's over. You may get these by emailing KainKustom@charter.net. The artist's name is Dan Kain, and each print is only $20, and from what we've heard, they are going Q U I C K!!!
Next on the agenda. . . There seems to be a very bitchin' movie out there called "Hot Rod Angel". You guys need to check out www.hotrodangel.com; there is a Graffiti Clone Coupe in this movie, which is owned by Mike Hawkins. The story for "Hot Rod Angel" was dedicated to Paul LeMat, who also stars in this film. So please check out the web site, and we will try to gather more information on this, as we have been in contact with Mr. Hawkins.
We here at Project THX138 are working on a new business / partnership deal, which will allow us to have the Man-A-Fre's in full production some time in August. With this new partnership, we will be able to do more and bigger things. Right now, we are currently working on a limited run of the correct Graffiti steering wheels, and should have more info by the next update.
And now, we have a special treat for you! We have a link called "Whatcha Think?" What this entails is a coupe owned by our friend Brad's Dad. This was a show car back in the '50's and '60's, that made its appearance in a lot of magazines. Now, you might be saying "So what?" Now here's the thing. We have a very good feeling that the Graffiti Coupe was modeled after this particular car. Now, we are not 100% sure, but they share a lot of similarities. For instance, the 3 inch chop, the rear bobbed fenders, the stainless firewall, the 4-deuce setup. Now, the headlights you will see in these pictures were not on the car in the early days. In the early days, guess what? It had the Milner headlight stands. So you tell us what you think? Could it be? Remember, this car was already out on the show circuit before American Graffiti was out. And it has been said, Lucas and Travers went through old street-rodding magazines to come up with the Graffiti look. We here at Project THX138 just received Henry Travers' phone number. We have yet to call it, but plan to do so very soon. We will definitely be asking about this blue coupe to find out if this was the one. We will keep you updated.
This week, I opened up my Franklin Mint box, and pulled out the pamphlet to see if the measurements for the Coupe were there. And, low and behold, there they were. From the height to the wheel base, to the size of the headers - almost everything you need. So, for those of you who do not have the Franklin Mint American Graffiti Coupe, please let us know, and if need be, we will post all measurements on next week's updates.
New Unknown Coupe Clone found!! In our clone's page, we have several pictures of "Unknown Clones". This week, we received an email from a very nice couple named Dan and Cindy. They were perusing our site, and happened to recognize one of these "unknowns" as their Coupe. They emailed us with quite a few very nice pictures, and sent us a very interesting story on their Coupe. It turns out, it has quite a lineage! The complete story of their Coupe is posted along with their pictures on our Clones page. If you would like to share the story of your Coupe, please email it to us, and we will put it in with your Clone pictures. While we would love to do this with every clone we have, we can't put in what we don't have. We know that other members would be very interested in hearing about other Graffiiti Coupe Clone projects, so send us your story today, and we will post it as soon as we can (by next update at the latest).
Well, that just about does it for this week. We have a lot more to say, but we are saving that for our member's site. So get those memberships coming in, and get your orders sent out to Custom Automotive and pick up that bitchin' dash panel. Trust me, you're gonna love it!
Until next week, happy hot rodding,
